Psychiatry is a medical specialty that involves the study, diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of mental disorders and illnesses. Psychiatry encompasses various aspects of mental health and covers a wide range of disorders, including depression, schizophrenia, anxiety disorders, bipolar disorder, as well as issues related to drug abuse and dependencies.

Psychiatrists are doctors who, after obtaining a medical degree, undergo further specialization in psychiatry. They can prescribe medication, conduct psychotherapy, and use other treatment methods such as electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) or transcranial magnetic stimulation.

Psychiatry is closely intertwined with psychology, neurology, and other medical fields, but its key distinction is that a psychiatrist has the authority to prescribe medications and conduct other medical interventions.
