Shigenobu KANBA Shigenobu Kanba, MD, PhD Professor and Chairman, Department of Neuropsychiatry Kyushu University Graduate School of Medicine Fukuoka, Japan Email: Shigenobu Kanba, MD, PhD graduated from Keio University School of Medicine. In 1980, Dr. Kanda moved to the Mayo Clinic in the US, working as a research fellow and resident in psychiatry. He obtained a PhD in medical science, studying the mechanisms of action of Lithium and Carbamazepine. In 1996, Dr. Kanba became a professor at Yamanashi University School of Medicine. Later, in 2003, Dr. Kanba moved to Kyushu University Graduate School of Medicine. During his career, Dr. Kanba’s main research areas have been mood disorders, brain science (psychopharmacology, stress, psychoneuroimmunology) and behavioral genetics. He has served as an editor for Psychiatry and Clinical Neurosciences (Japan), Journal of Psychiatry and Neuroscience (Canada), Molecular Psychiatry (USA), Asian Journal of Psychiatry, Asia Pacific Journal of Psychiatry, and Open Journal of Psychiatry. Dr. Kanba has served as an Executive Committee member for the World Federation of Societies of Biological Psychiatry, as Secretary of the Psychiatric Committee for the Science Council of Japan, and he has also advised the Japanese Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare. Dr. Kanba has also served as an Advisory member of Drug and Food Administration, and he is a council member for the International Society for Bipolar Disorder.
